Jun - VFX Artist

Most hours logged: Mabinogi, League of Legends, Monster Hunter

Hello, I’m Jun!

I think I liked games more than going outside from a pretty early age, and I have no regrets about that. I’ve played everything, old PC games from the disc era, GBA, and now I’m all over the place: Nintendo games, RPGs, sports games, rhythm games, factory games, VR, deck-builders. The games that have stuck with me the most are probably Don’t Starve, Project Zomboid, Borderlands. Though Mabinogi, League of Legends, and Monster Hunter probably have the highest hours logged if I’m being honest.

I studied game production at university, which genuinely helped a lot in getting into the industry. VFX was the area I gravitated toward because it sits right at the intersection of logical thinking and aesthetic sense, I loved that it needed both. I landed my first VFX artist role straight after graduating, and I’ve been doing it ever since.

Daniël - Composer

Deaths to the Soldier of Godrick: 18

My name is Daniël, I’m from the Netherlands, and I write the music for Renhet!

I’ve been a creative for as long as I can remember, always making something, or designing things in my head. Gaming came into my life around age four, with Mario Kart and other Wii classics, and it’s been a big part of my free time ever since. My taste has shifted over the years though. The games I’ve sunk the most hours into are creative ones, Minecraft, Planet Coaster. Planet Coaster is actually responsible for one of my other great obsessions: theme parks. Make of that what you will.

When I was seven, I picked up the trumpet and started lessons. Not long after, I found myself in a little orchestra, and that’s where I discovered my love for orchestral music. I eventually moved to a bigger orchestra, where I still play every week. Music has just always been there.

Then Covid hit, and with lockdown came a lot of time to fill. I started using BandLab to compose, just to pass the time, nothing serious. Little did I know that decision would change everything.

At the start of 2022, Elden Ring came out and everyone was playing it. I’d never touched an RPG in my life, but I gave it a go. If you know Elden Ring at all, you can probably guess how it went. I died 18 to the Soldier of Godrick. Yes, really. First boss. 18 times.

But here’s the thing, even though I was absolutely terrible at it, I couldn’t stop playing. The world just pulled me in. And then it clicked: it was the music. I’d loved games for years without ever really stopping to notice how much the score was doing. Elden Ring made me notice. Video game music now makes up a big chunk of my spotify playlists alongside film scores and other orchestral stuff, and it’s had a huge impact on how I compose.

So I started looking for opportunities in the field, and stumbled across a random Reddit thread posted by a guy named Miguel. And here we are.

Ben - Sound Designer

Previous life: 15+ years touring live sound (Rita Ora, The Vamps, Ronan Keating)

I’m Ben, an aspiring sound designer who not long ago finished my master’s degree at Thinkspace Education studying sound design for video games.

My journey in games has been short, but I come with a lot of baggage in the best way. I spent over fifteen years as a touring live sound engineer, working FOH and monitors for artists like Rita Ora, Russell Watson, The Vamps, Ronan Keating, and John Newman. I worked with audio in high pressure environments and time-driven deadlines.

Then COVID hit and everything stopped. That pause turned out to be one of the most important things that’s ever happened to me. With life on hold, I actually had space to look at what I was doing and ask myself if I was happy. It’s amazing what a small pause in life can do instead of just keeping on keeping on! I started online learning with an electronic producer, did a short FMOD course with The School of Video Game Audio, and eventually found myself on a full master’s programme.

I’ve always loved games and my influences are vast. I grew up on the SNES and Megadrive, and the PSX era came in. Those games were my sweet spot in gaming and my main influences lie here. I’m super stoked to finally find like-minded individuals here at Renhet Studio, the talent is insane!

I just love being part of it all, making SFX for games made by passionate creatives.

Ren - Marketing

Most anticipated: the Fable reboot

Hi, I’m Ren!

I’ve loved video games for as long as I can remember. Growing up in the PS1 era, I completely fell in love with Tombi! and Tombi! 2, I played them over and over, trying to complete every mission and uncover every secret. Looking back, those games probably shaped my love for adventure, exploration, and quirky worlds more than anything else.

Gaming has been a huge part of my life across pretty much every console generation, going all the way back to the NES and SNES. The games that have left the biggest mark on me are Tombi! 2, Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, Mass Effect 2, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Genshin Impact, each one showed me something different about storytelling, world-building, and how you create communities that players genuinely care about. Right now my most anticipated game is the Fable reboot. I grew up with the original trilogy and have a lot of good memories tied to those games.

My background is in marketing, where I’ve spent my career figuring out what people value and how to connect them with experiences that mean something. Gaming has always been such a central part of my life that bringing those two things together felt completely natural. I love the creativity that comes with independent studios, the freedom to build something authentic rather than chasing whatever happens to be popular.

Outside of games, I’m deep into cosmic horror, historical folklore, and conspiracy theories. I love a strange story and a good mystery, which I think feed directly into my appreciation for rich worlds and memorable narratives in games.

What brought me to Renhet was the people. Being surrounded by ambitious, dedicated specialists who genuinely care about what they’re creating is something I don’t take for granted. Everyone here wants to build something meaningful from the ground up, and I’m glad to be a part of it.

Freya - Marketing & Blog

Random side quest: wrote a fantasy novel mid degree

Hi, I’m Freya, the one you’ll see writing these posts!

I graduated this year with a degree in Film and Television Studies. I spent most of my final year deep in research on video games, specifically on how they get adapted into film and TV, and why doing it well is so much harder than it looks. My dissertation was essentially an argument for taking games seriously as storytelling material. I stand by every word!

I currently work a full-time office job that has nothing to do with the games industry. As many of you probably know, finding a creative job as a new graduate can be hard. I spend the rest of my time writing, creating, and helping Renhet wherever I can. This blog is one of my favourite things I get to do. I told myself that even though I am not working in the games industry currently, I will always continue to create. My side projects have involved developing my own fantasy novel and I now have a small fandom in my hometown (which is really strange!)

My earliest gaming memory is Super Mario Galaxy on the Wii, followed by Skylanders, which I’m pretty sure shaped my entire personality. I cannot forget to mention Minecraft on the Xbox 360 which consumed my life for a good portion of my youth. These days I am obsessed with Final Fantasy VII, Expedition 33, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Detroit: Become Human. My camera roll is mainly filled with either screenshots from games or videos of me crying from games.

I feel very lucky to be here. I really do mean that. I love writing this blog and seeing what the team gets up to.

…well that’s the ten of us.

Next week, we get into the good stuff!  See you then.
